Just got back from a lovely, if damp, week away in Dartmouth and the South Hams, visiting old haunts and devouring lots of locally caught fish. Torrential rainfall on Thursday caused localised flooding and even lifted bits of tarmac on the coastal road to Slapton – which was made all the more strange as during the storm I was sitting on the terrace of the South Sands Hotel in Salcombe bathed in warm sunshine, watching the thunder, lightning and rain just a few miles away. Also popped in to say hello to Andrea at the Dartmouth Community Bookshop and sign my copies of Daniel in stock – it is a lovely shop on Higher Street established following the closure of the Harbour Bookshop some years ago (with its famous family links to A A Milne of Pooh fame). I was thrilled when Andrea also told me that she’d included Daniel in a list of top ten books to read in an upcoming edition of the local West Country press.
